It is with deep sorrow that we report that the world has lost a great figure in the study of jewelry history. Christie Romero succumbed to her battle with cancer Saturday evening, September 5th, 2009, at 9:50 pm PST, with her husband of 30 years, Jimmie Romero, by her side. She fought valiantly this last year, defying all odds.
Christie
Romero is best known as a jewelry historian, consultant, gemologist
and instructor of antique and period jewelry. She has
been teaching classes in Southern California since 1988.
Christie has authored three publications of Warman's
Jewelry, published by Krause Publications and the Collector's
Timeline.
Christie lectured throughout the country at seminars, meetings, conventions, and special events. She was on the faculties of the annual summer conference on Antique Jewelry and Gemstones at Hofstra University in Hempstead NY and the Jewelry Design Department at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in downtown Los Angeles CA. She has lectured for the American Society of Appraisers, the College for Appraisers, the Gemological Institute of America, Women's Jewelry Association, the Northwest Gemological Institute and many other groups. Christie also appeared regularly as an appraiser for the "Antiques Roadshow ."
The Center for Jewelry Studies was started by Christie Romero in the 1990's as a means to disseminate information
on the history, identification, and marketing
of antique, period, and vintage jewelry. The Center has offered and will continue to, in the spirit by which she created it, provide quality information and programs designed to supplement the careers of those
in jewelry-related fields - including dealers,
appraisers, jewelers and gemologists - as well
as enhance the enjoyment of collectors, heirs,
and jewelry lovers.

Christie Romero's
West Coast Memorial Saturday, October 3, 2009 At Pearson Park, was a moving celebration of the spirit that defined Christie. Her work, her love, her life was relived in music played by the band she played with and so loved, slides of her work at FIDM and of her youth, and the memories that were shared by those who took the microphone. Thanks to Jimmie and the Band, it was a loving and moving celebration of the life of Christie Romero. Anaheim, California
